The Tuscaloosa City finance committee voted to approve several budget adjustments and to authorize a liability insurance premium for EMTs who provide home‑health services.
A finance staff member (S5) presented 2025 budget revision No. 1, asking the committee to budget $1,656,403 of 2025 interest income for the savings center project. After brief discussion clarifying that the amount represents accrued interest from borrowed funds (roughly covering about a year), the committee approved the revision on a voice vote.
Separately, the committee considered Elevate budget revision No. 5, a proposal to use $1,471,172 from an elevate contingency for the savings center. Members discussed splitting change order No. 2 into two parts—one covering a marble procurement and a second covering terrace work—so the marble could be funded now while terrace options and funding sources are examined further. Staff (S4) explained the procedural approach: the office would draft separate resolutions so the marble and terrace could be handled as distinct change orders.
Committee member (S2) moved to amend the elevate revision so it would fund the marble portion in the amount of $143,597; Committee member (S3) seconded and the amendment passed on a voice vote. The committee then voted to accept the elevate revision as amended. Committee member (S3) said he favored moving forward with both items but supported the committee’s decision to fund the marble now so work could continue while terrace funding is resolved.
Earlier in the meeting, a staff member (S4) told the committee that the EMT home‑health professional liability insurance premium for the year is $8,510.99, an increase of $14.03 from the prior year, and confirmed the coverage remains the same; the committee approved that item on a voice vote.
Several dollar figures discussed during the meeting were read quickly and at times garbled in the transcript; committee members agreed the terrace funding would be revisited next week or when the council agenda is finalized. The committee had no further business and moved to adjourn.
Votes at a glance: adopt minutes (voice vote, motion carried); EMT liability insurance premium approved (voice vote, motion carried); 2025 budget revision No. 1 to allocate $1,656,403 approved (voice vote, motion carried); amendment to Elevate revision to allocate $143,597 for marble approved (voice vote, motion carried); amended Elevate revision adopted (voice vote, motion carried).
