Montgomery County: 7 outdoor pools open through Sept. 7; lifeguard hiring underway

“Mónica y cuéntanos, ¿cuántas piscinas públicas cuenta el condado de Montgomery…?” the host asked; Jaume replied, “Sí, tenemos 7 piscinas al aire libre en el condado de Montgomery … y también tenemos nuestros centros que son cubiertos y tenemos 4 abiertos en ese momento.”
Jaume said outdoor pools are scheduled to remain open through Sept. 7. She gave regular operating hours for outdoor pools as Monday through Friday from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and weekends from noon to 8:00 p.m. Daily admission rates the department announced on-air were $7 for adults, $6 for residents 55 and older and $5 for people under 18. Jaume said the county also offers family passes and seasonal and annual passes for year-round use of facilities.
On pool rules and safety, Jaume said the department posts a complete list of rules on its website and urged visitors to obey lifeguards and on-site staff, supervise children, avoid running near pools and limit phone use in pool areas: “siempre escucha a los salvavidas y al personal…envíe a sus hijos, no usas teléfono cuando están en la piscina, no corre en la piscina.”
The department described its party-rental policy: outdoor pools do not take formal reservations (space is on a first-come basis), while indoor aquatic centers can be reserved; reservations require at least two weeks’ advance notice and center staff provide pricing and booking assistance.
Jaume encouraged residents to subscribe to Montgomery County recreation alerts for bilingual notifications about weather closures or capacity-based shutdowns and to check the department website for same-day updates. On-air contact numbers read during the program were 240-777-0311 for alert registration and 240-777-6840 for the department customer service line.
On staffing, Jaume said the department is actively hiring lifeguards and offers both seasonal and year-round opportunities tied to program needs and swim instruction offerings: “siempre estamos buscando salvavidas…ofrecemos clases de natación, programas diferentes.”
Marcela Villagrán closed by reminding listeners of a planned summer maintenance closure on the Red Line between North Bethesda and Friendship Heights; the program said free shuttle buses and express services will run across the affected segment and directed listeners to the county website for details.
The department’s online pages and social accounts were listed as primary ways to obtain schedules, pass information and the full list of pool rules.
