McBee Council approves NETC annexation, OKs $100,000 temporary transfer

Mayor Glenn Odom presided over the Town of McBee council meeting on Sept. 9, 2025, where the council approved the second reading of an annexation for NETC and authorized a temporary $100,000 transfer to support North Industrial until reimbursement from Rural Development is received.
Councilman Robbie Liles moved to approve the NETC annexation on its second reading; Councilman James Linton seconded and the motion passed with all members voting in favor. Mayor Odom opened the public hearing and invited comment; none was offered.
The council also voted to temporarily transfer $100,000 from the Utilities Fund to the General Fund to cover expenses for North Industrial pending reimbursement from Rural Development. Councilman Robbie Liles made the motion and Councilman Ricky Peoples seconded; the motion passed "All in favor." The minutes record the transfer as a short‑term cash‑flow measure to be reversed when Rural Development reimbursement arrives.
The council approved minutes for three prior meetings (Aug. 12 regular meeting; Aug. 20 emergency meeting; Aug. 22 special meeting) by recorded motions and unanimous votes.
Mayor Odom tabled Item #2, a report from Chief Knight about roaming dogs, derelict mobile homes and yard trash piles; the minutes state Officer Matt Clark is working on those enforcement items. Separately, the mayor reported the town had referred work on the Ease‑Way between 9th and Elm to the county, but the county said it could not perform the work and the town lacks the necessary equipment; the council is awaiting follow‑up from county contact Eddie Kirkley.
The council moved into executive session to receive legal advice from Attorney Martin Driggers related to the Police Department. After returning to open session the mayor verified that discussion was limited to a brief matter involving the department and that no formal action was taken.
The meeting concluded with a motion by Mayor Odom to adjourn, seconded by Councilman Robbie Liles; the meeting was adjourned.
