The Pflugerville Independent School District Board of Trustees used its Oct. 17 meeting to recognize several district programs and staff accomplishments.
Anna Cortez, president of the Mexican American School Board Association, presented an award to the district’s Multilingual Department and praised the district’s programming and leadership. "I am president of the Mexican American School Board Association...and I am proud to announce that Pflugerville Outstanding English Language Learner Initiative Award," Cortez said as she presented the honor to representatives Hannah Davis, Trudy Brandenburg and Alejandro Mojica.
The board also recognized Hendrickson High School’s Marine Corps JROTC unit, which earned the Naval Honor School designation; cadet leadership and instructors were invited to the dais for a ribbon presentation and photo. The board introduced Jacob Olsen as the district’s new chief legal officer and named October employees of the month, including Dana Wilcott (professional employee) and Jennifer Taylor (support employee). Guest educator of the month was Alma Garcia of Palmer Lane Elementary.
Trustees and staff thanked the multilingual department and the event organizers for community engagement, noting the Hispanic/Latino Heritage Fair’s turnout and cultural programming.
