Gunnison City Council on July 15 approved awarding the Salina–Gunnison Airport pavement maintenance contract to the low bidder, Straight Stripe Painting, for a contract amount of $135,761.50.
City staff said the project began in the prior budget, and the state will fund about 90 percent of the work under the capital improvement plan for the shared airport. Staff recommended awarding the contract to the low bidder; the council moved, seconded and approved the award.
"If you guys are okay with the lowest bid of Straight Stripe Painting, we need a motion to approve that expenditure," the mayor said before the motion. The motion passed on a roll call recorded in the minutes with councilors voting to approve the award.
Construction and striping work will move forward under the awarded contract; staff will coordinate with Salida (a partner jurisdiction) and the state as the project proceeds.
