CEP committee agrees to award three $15,000 grants for 2026–27

The Community Enhancement Program committee voted by consensus to award three one-year grants of $15,000 each for the 2026–27 grant cycle, deploying about $45,000 of the program’s available funds.
Assistant City Manager Kim Ezell, speaking for staff, said the CEP program brings in roughly “a $100,000 in this program per year,” and explained that the committee’s remaining balance for this cycle is about $46,500 after prior allocations. Staff presented two broad options: pause awarding grants this cycle to grow the fund or allocate money now to meet current community needs. Multiple committee members favored deploying funds this year rather than waiting.
Committee members outlined a selection process the group will use: an application period from Aug. 3 through Sept. 11; online scoring by committee members Sept. 14–28 using a provided rubric; notification of the top 3–5 applicants on Sept. 30; and presentations by finalists to the committee on Oct. 12. The committee indicated it will request 7–8 minute presentations with 2–3 minutes for questions from the panel.
The committee also agreed to a preliminary committee evaluation step so members can vet applications and invite a manageable set of finalists for in-person presentations. Staff said the ranking will be used to identify the top applicants, and the committee will then deliberate and make award decisions.
No formal roll-call vote was recorded in the transcript for the grant-allocation decision; the record shows committee consensus in discussion and staff direction to proceed with the advertised schedule. The committee approved routine business (the consent agenda) earlier in the meeting by motion and voice vote.
