Floyd County supervisors prioritize BESS and solar ordinance updates, consider turbine permit fees

The board then discussed prioritizing amendments to the county zoning ordinance to address Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), solar installations and data centers/crypto‑mining. Supervisors identified BESS and solar as the initial priorities for amendment work and asked for technical assistance.
The board agreed that John Robbins, identified in the record as a NIACOG senior planner, would help determine whether one or both topics could be addressed initially, depending on his availability. Chair Gloria Carr said she would follow up on a contract for NIACOG services and consult the county attorney about whether a temporary moratorium is advisable while ordinance language is drafted.
