Commission continues outreach: letters, walking tours and possible St. Bavo’s landmark interest

"It's like a one-page sheet of his presentation," staff said, describing a handout drawn from recent training resources.
Commissioners also announced community programs: two walking tours are planned (a mid-August Bueter/Patel Park repeat and a tentative West End walking tour on Sept. 26 with limited capacity) that will cover local building history and be limited to a small group because of sidewalk constraints.
Finally, staff reported some favorable interest from St. Bavo’s parish after the commission sent a letter inviting the parish to consider local historic landmark status. The parish secretary asked the commission's outreach lead to brief the new pastor; staff noted diocesan approval would be required because the diocese holds title to parish properties.
The commission asked staff to keep a list of respondents who have called about the outreach letter, and encouraged follow-up discussions with property owners and parish leadership.
