Superintendent reports preliminary enrollment change; board to consider early retirement and virtual snow days

Superintendent Paul Peppmeier told the West Bend-Mallard Comm School District Board of Directors on Oct. 8 that preliminary enrollment figures show approximately 15 more actual students while certified enrollment is down by about four; certified counts will be provided next month.
Peppmeier asked whether the board would like to consider offering an early retirement option this year and said that item will be added to next month’s agenda for discussion. He also reported that the district is permitted to approve up to five virtual snow days this year; that item will be placed on the November agenda for board consideration.
Peppmeier said district staff (including Tiffany Morey, Tyson Wirtz, Rachel Montag and Crystal Eggers) recently attended activities conference sessions and learned updated information affecting activity accounts. He also noted safety improvements underway in the main gym: wall pads are being installed from bleacher to bleacher to provide increased protection for athletes.
The superintendent characterized the enrollment figures as preliminary and said certified numbers, which affect state funding calculations, will be available next month. No formal action on retirement or virtual snow days was taken at the Oct. 8 meeting; both were scheduled for future agenda consideration.
