Nemaha County awards culvert bid, adopts two subdivision resolutions and authorizes bridge engineering

Auburn, Neb. — The Nemaha County Board of Commissioners on July 15 accepted a low sealed bid for a county culvert project, adopted two subdivision resolutions for property in Section 7, T5N R13E, approved the county’s audit engagement letter and several contingent emergency warrants, and authorized the engineering phase for two bridge projects.
Chairman Michael Weiss presided over the 8:00 a.m. meeting in the Commissioner’s Chambers. The board opened sealed bids for project C-64(356) — the Brock Northwest Project for 120-inch corrugated metal pipe, steel headwall and wingwall — and accepted Ace Eaton Metals’ bid of $83,240.00 after staff read three bids. The motion to award the contract was made by Chairman Michael Weiss and seconded by Commissioner Bryan Mellage; the roll-call vote was unanimous (Hall, Mellage, Weiss).
The board also adopted Resolution 2026-26 and Resolution 2026-27, both recorded as subdivisions for the Linda J. Kohrs Living Trust in Section 7, T5N R13E. Both resolutions were moved by Chairman Weiss, seconded by Commissioner Mellage and adopted on unanimous roll-call votes.
Commissioners approved and signed a letter of understanding with the Nebraska Auditor of Public Accounts covering audit services for Nemaha County for the period July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2026. Commissioner Bryan Mellage moved the auditor letter approval, Commissioner Mike Hall seconded the motion, and the board voted unanimously to approve the engagement.
The board approved contingent warrants of $500 each to three Southeast PET Region partners — LBBNRD Wymore Rural Water, the Village of Pickrell and Saline County EMA — stipulating payment after receipt of NEMA funds. The motions authorizing those contingent obligations were approved by roll-call votes recorded in the minutes.
On county operations, Commissioners approved modifications to the Road Department’s Windstream/UNITI billing to reduce ongoing telecom costs. The minutes record an update on installation of Link2pump fuel-monitoring equipment but do not include further action on that item.
Highway Superintendent Dan Alexander reported on the Road Rebuild Johnson SW project (C-64(354)) and on bridge work. The board voted to begin the engineering stage for bridge replacement Project C64-274 (Bridge #6411110) and for Project C64-231, both listed on the county One & Six Year plan. Chairman Weiss moved the engineering authorization, Commissioner Mike Hall seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
The meeting record lists routine departmental reports received by the board — clerk, treasurer and sheriff reports, pledged securities and unpaid-tax summaries — and includes a detailed vendor and payroll claims listing approved for payment by the County Clerk. With no further business the board adjourned at 9:43 a.m.; the minutes are certified by County Clerk Diane Johnson and posted on the county website.
