District staff presented an informational update July 14 on furniture, fixtures and equipment (FFE) procurement for the new consolidated elementary school and recommended Meteor Education and Blankenship Associates.
The presenter said five firms were interviewed under the statewide term contract for school furniture and that the selection was based on interview scores, prior experience with K–12 settings and the strength of the proposed project teams. "A selection was made for us to work with Meteor Education and Blankenship Associates," the presenter said and noted the district previously worked with the vendor for Warren County High School furniture.
Staff emphasized that the submitted letter of intent is not the final contract; legal counsel and purchasing reviewed the selection and cleared the district to proceed with a notice of intent to award. Board members asked about price breaks, vendor training and whether vendors would return to support proper use and maintenance; staff said the recommended firms agreed to provide staff training and to embed maintenance guidance based on lessons learned from prior installations.
Board members also noted ancillary capabilities in vendor subsidiaries (for example, bleacher or floor work) that could be helpful as the district continues facility upgrades. The presenter described planned learning-space designs that move away from traditional desks in rows toward varied furniture to support different learning modalities.
Why it matters: Selecting an FFE vendor affects classroom layouts, furniture lifecycle and training needs for custodial and instructional staff. Staff said the vendor will provide training to help maintain the furniture and extend utility.
Next steps: Procurement will work to finalize contract terms and return appropriate materials to the board for contract execution and scheduling of vendor training.
