Warren County school board approves curriculum and software contracts, adopts budget amendment

The Warren County Schools board voted July 14 to approve three instructional contracts and to adopt Budget Amendment No. 5 for the 2025–26 school year.

Superintendent Dr. Monica Davis recommended keeping Edmentum for courseware and credit-recovery services and said the district’s audit of instructional resources led to a narrower, more targeted set of purchases. "The cost this year... is $33,886," Davis said when describing the reduced Edmentum expense for 2026–27. A board member moved to approve the Edmentum contract; another seconded the motion and the board carried it by voice/electronic vote.

The board also approved a Curriculum Associates i-Ready contract to support diagnostics and interventions in reading and math. Dr. Davis said the district will continue using i-Ready for diagnostic assessments and small-group instruction, and that results from learning walks and teacher debriefs demonstrated gains at the elementary level.

For literacy and coaching supports, the board approved a contract with HMH Educational Company. Dr. Davis described the purchase as K–12 core literacy materials with an added coaching component for new teachers; she cited a contract cost of $46,644.24 for the year.

In a separate presentation, the district’s finance presenter reviewed Budget Amendment No. 5, which realigned expenditures between instructional programs and systemwide support. The presenter said the state public-school fund is shown at $18,313,969 and that local current-expense fund (Fund 2) was adjusted in the amendment to approximately $6,275,381. On preliminary fund balances the presenter reported, "For our fund 2... we are at $313,663.98," and identified capital outlay and other restricted fund balances as $174,905.50 and $123,190.41, respectively. The board moved to adopt the amendment and approved it by vote.
