Union City Borough Council voted Sept. 16 to authorize submitting a county Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) application for up to $100,000 to fund a portion of stormwater-system repairs in Municipal Lot #1.
Streets Supervisor Bob Phillips told council he and Borough Manager Cindy Wells met with borough counsel to review sinkhole findings in Municipal Lot #1. The minutes record that Mansfield will repair the sinkhole, replace roughly 10 feet of pipe and install a new catch basin. Borough staff said smoke-and-dye testing will be completed after that work. The borough is awaiting quotes from JT Patching and Paving and Cross Paving to repave the area; business owners and the UCVFD (the volunteer fire department) will be notified before smoke testing is scheduled.
Councilor Steadman moved to approve submitting the CDBG application; Councilor Osborn seconded and the motion carried unanimously. The CDBG request is for up to $100,000 and is intended to cover part — not all — of the stormwater repairs in Municipal Lot #1.
