Wanaque council approves road and park contracts, grants, and equipment purchases

The Borough of Wanaque on June 15 approved multiple consent resolutions to advance capital work, accept grants and replace equipment used by public safety and operations.
Council awarded the roadway improvements for Argyle Road, Northgate, Wolfe Drive and related 2025 road program to DLS Contracting Inc., for a lowest qualified bid of $298,108.25 under Resolution #2026-166. The council also authorized a professional services contract with Boswell, Inc., for engineering, surveying and permitting for Laurie Park improvements — a not‑to‑exceed fee of $110,000 under Resolution #2026-167 — for a project that will remove the existing ballfield and provide two pickleball courts, a walking path, paved parking and improved driveway access.
The borough accepted several grants noted during the meeting, including a Clean Communities award of $25,665.02 and Passaic County Open Space funding for Laurie Field and Back Beach. Administrator Robert Hermansen and staff said the borough continues to pursue grant funding to offset capital costs.
The council approved a purchase of Tough Books and accessories for police and water departments from Gold Type Business Machines under a New Jersey state contract for up to $48,668.87 (Resolution #2026-174). Residents had asked for clarification on the tech upgrade during the public comment period; a meeting participant explained the Tough Books are the in‑unit laptops used by police.
Other consent items adopted included liquor license renewals, appointment of new firefighters, a shared‑services agreement to provide Class Three Special Law Enforcement Officers (SLEO III) services to the Lakeland Board of Education (Resolution #2026-171), an emergency repair award for a Jet Vac not to exceed $20,769.00 (Resolution #2026-178), and a termination action for a full-time Department of Public Works laborer effective June 10, 2026 (Resolution #2026-179).
The resolutions passed as listed on the June 15 consent agenda; one item — the agreement with the Wanaque Police Superior Officers (Resolution #2026-164) — had been removed from the consent agenda for separate consideration and was ultimately tabled later in the meeting after executive session.
