Union City Borough Council voted Aug. 13 to contract Mansfield Construction to repair a sinkhole and failing drainage at Municipal Lot #1 at a cost of $22,295.
Streets Supervisor Bob Phillips and engineer representatives from Insight and Tim Wells recommended replacing a damaged 24‑inch clay tile, reconnecting pipes within the sinkhole to the 24‑inch line, installing a larger catch basin adjacent to the sinkhole and replacing roughly 10 feet of pipe. Two estimates were presented to council: Mansfield at $22,295 and McLallen Construction at $23,450. Both contractors require the Borough to provide a truck during construction.
Councilor Steadman moved to award the work to Mansfield; Councilor Osborn seconded the motion, which carried unanimously.
The minutes note the immediate repairs — tile replacement, catch basin enlargement and pipe reconnection — but do not specify a start date or expected completion timeframe. The borough will supply a truck for the contractor as part of the agreement and the Streets Department will manage coordination and inspection.
Next steps: contract execution and scheduling with Mansfield; the minutes record the authorization but not the procurement paperwork or completion schedule.
