City staff recommended and the Mebane City Council approved the purchase of a pump-station parcel in the Phase 1 area of Fieldstone Farms for about $7,500.
Lawson Brown, speaking for city staff, said the parcel had been platted and deeded to the homeowners association but the city had operated the pump station and now needs ownership to complete upgrades. "Staff recommends purchase this property at $7,500 subject to the usual due diligence," S11 said.
Councilmember S9 moved the purchase, a colleague seconded, and the motion carried on a voice vote.
Why it matters: Owning the parcel clears title for the city's upgrade project and avoids prolonged property-rights disputes with the homeowners association. The purchase price reported in the meeting is roughly half the parcel's tax value, according to staff comments.
What happens next: Staff will perform standard due diligence and the city manager was authorized to execute documents required to complete the transaction.
