The Mebane City Council unanimously approved a voluntary contiguous annexation of 36.153 acres on Bevin Oaks Road to extend city corporate limits and allow a developer to use city water and sewer. Staff described the site location, previous zoning determinations and recommended approval.
In separate public hearings the council approved three rezoning requests after staff presentations and limited public comment. The 300 Giles Street parcel (about 0.39 acre) was rezoned from B-3 to R-15 so the owner can build a single-family home; the applicant Anna Musqueda confirmed her intent to build one home. The council approved a rezoning for 703 W McKinley Street (request by Witt Real Estate Investments) from R-20 to R-8 to restore a historic three-lot configuration indicated on a 1919 plat; applicant Jenny Witt said a survey will determine lot dimensions but the intent is single-family detached homes. Finally, the council approved rezoning 203 S 5th Street from R-12 to B-3 after planning staff explained downtown place-type consistency; applicant Nicole Cockerham said the intended use is a small office (State Farm noted by councilors) and staff discussed watershed overlay constraints and permitted uses.
Each rezoning was found consistent with the Mebane 2045 comprehensive plan and approved by voice vote.
