Mebane — City staff proposed and the council approved a change order to extend the Turner Asphalt GC LLC contract by $160,525 to repair and resurface an additional 0.43 miles of city streets, City Manager Richard White said.
White listed the segments targeted for resurfacing: West Clay Street (from North Charles Street to North Wilbur Road), South 8th Street (from Walker Court to Vicar Street), Beavercreek Drive (from Drake Lane to Esteban Court) and Phil Dale Road (from South 5th Street to Mebane Oaks Road). He said those streets were selected based on the 2024 pavement condition survey conducted by LaVela.
For context, White said the council originally awarded the Turner Asphalt contract in September 2024 for about $800,000 to repair and resurface roughly 1.1 miles. The contract includes a provision allowing an extension up to 200% of the original amount; a portion of the additional funding for the change order was reallocated to address storm drainage repairs from Tropical Storm Chantelle.
Council action: the council voted 5–0 to approve the change order in the amount of $160,525 for the 2025–26 street repair and resurfacing contract, White said.
Next steps: the contractor will proceed with the additional resurfacing work as funded under the approved change order; the city will manage scheduling and notify residents in advance of impacts.
