Clinton council appoints Norma Kania, hires two police officers and adopts summer-recreation payroll

The Town of Clinton Mayor and Council on June 10 appointed Norma Kania to the Economic Development Committee, adopted summer recreation pay rates for 2026 and hired two new police officers, all by unanimous votes of the members present.
Councilwoman Padmos moved to appoint Norma Kania to the Economic Development Committee; Mr. Bruno seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Council adopted Resolution #110-26 setting 2026 summer recreation compensation, which lists Samantha LeStrange as director at $9,500 for the season, Michael Mealey as assistant director at $5,800 and a range of hourly rates for teachers and counselors (teachers $48.50/hour; senior counselors $18.50/hour; junior counselors $15.50/hour). The resolution also records a roster of volunteer counselors-in-training.
The council adopted Resolution #111-26 to hire Oleksiy Kuyan as a 10th Class Police Officer and Resolution #112-26 to hire Lukas Bakerian as a 10th Class Police Officer, each at the 2026 rate of $68,475.03 and subject to a one-year probationary period with an effective date of June 15, 2026. Resolution motions and roll-call votes were unanimous for both hires.
Council also approved a fire-safety permit and waived the fee for Boy Scout flag-burning at the Flag Day event, and approved a refund to Flying High Limo for a storage change. The council approved standby and overtime pay and the voucher list by roll call before adjourning at 7:53 p.m.
