At its Feb. 7 meeting, the Clifton Town Council reviewed multiple committee reports and administrative items, including an ongoing streetscape contract pre-award audit with VDOT, planned park plantings, a communications proposal for G‑Suite, and the Town Oral History Project.
Streetscape: Councilmember Regan McDonald said the proposed streetscape contract was submitted to VDOT, which requested additional information from the contractor; a pre‑award audit is ongoing and the council expects a status update when the process concludes.
Park plantings: Councilmember Wayne Nickum reported the Park Committee will meet on-site the following week to discuss plantings near the basketball court intended to screen the playground and benefit the community.
Communications and G‑Suite: Councilmember Darrell Poe presented a draft proposal to acquire G‑Suite as a single email platform with centralized management for the Town Council, staff, the Planning Commission and the Architectural Review Board. The Council provided feedback and directed Poe to revise the draft for consideration next month.
Oral History Project: Mayor Bill Hollaway emphasized a need to record long-standing residents' oral histories before that generation is lost. Chuck Rusnak said the History Committee is collecting raw data and compiling an interviewee list and will submit a progress report at the next meeting.
Administrative motions: Councilmember Wayne Nickum moved to approve the January minutes (motion passed 5–0–1, Councilmember Deborah Dillard abstained). Nickum also moved to approve the Treasurer's report and to add scheduling the budget timetable to next month’s agenda; Councilmember Regan McDonald seconded and the motion passed, 6–0.
Other administrative items discussed included residency requirements to serve on the Town Council (no action taken) and Councilmember Darrell Poe researching business card templates and pricing for councilmembers and staff.
