Resident asks for sidewalk; Clifton Council forms Pedestrian and Traffic Safety committee

At the Aug. 1 meeting, resident Marilyn Stoney asked the Clifton Town Council to build a sidewalk connecting Clifton Creek Drive to the rest of the town and submitted a letter for the record.
Following the public comment, Councilmember Darrell Poe moved to form a Pedestrian and Traffic Safety special committee, to be chaired by Kathy Kalinowski. The motion noted that Kalinowski will invite Marilyn Stoney, Councilmember Poe and others to participate; Mayor Bill Hollaway seconded the motion and it passed by poll vote, 6-0.
Councilmember Wayne Nickum also reported ongoing work to address drainage issues that affect sidewalks and roadways, including installing a 24-foot metal drainage pipe next to the children’s playground (estimated cost $400) and replacing the Pendleton Road drainage pipe in mid-August, a project that may require closing Chapel Road (and possibly Pendleton) during the work. Nickum said he will investigate solar-powered lighting options for the Railroad Siding parking lot and will bring a proposal forward, and he is attempting to obtain earlier landscaping plans for the area behind Hydrangea and the Animal Clinic of Clifton.
The special committee will be expected to meet and report back to the Council; the minutes direct the committee to invite affected residents and provide recommendations to the Council at a future meeting.
