Committee approves purchases for dispatch recording and radio upgrades

Aurora’s finance committee on July 16 approved multiple items to upgrade public-safety communications and recording systems.
Jeff Anderson, deputy CIO, said state law requires retention of public-safety recordings and described an RFP that selected Equature of Southfield, Michigan, to provide a single consolidated dispatch recording system that will capture both radio and 911 audio. "What we went through was an RFP process ... ended up picking Equature," Anderson said.
Anderson also described amendments to an existing 10-year contract with L3 Harris to acquire in-vehicle radios and accessories, noting staff reduced the previously estimated cost by narrowing equipment needs. The committee approved both the dispatch recording system authorization and the radio equipment purchases by voice votes of 3-0.
Anderson said networking equipment and on-site spares are needed to provide redundancy between the primary data center and the backup center; procurement of those networking components from L3 Harris was also approved.
