Event planning for a Revolutionary War memorial dedication was outlined: the dedication is scheduled at the cemetery from 10 a.m. to noon with a living-history fair at the community center from noon to 4 p.m. The commission discussed logistics including vendors, food trucks, an encampment for children’s crafts, Council on Aging vans for accessible transportation and use of golf carts. Commissioners asked that one member speak at the dedication and sought volunteers for the events.
An Eagle Scout volunteer project was also discussed: a scout proposed planting a red-white-and-blue garden at the Walk of Remembrance. Commissioners advised delaying planting until later in the growing season because of drought concerns and recommended drought-tolerant species and staff follow-up on plant choice and timing.
The commission said it will reach out to vendors and community groups, and will add event items to upcoming agendas as volunteer and procurement details are finalized.
