Max Singletary, manager of the Development and Research Center (DRC), told the Pharr Library Board that the center saw heavy community use in May and June.
"We had, we had quite a few events," Singletary said, listing graduations, two banquets tied to a youth badge and police academy graduation, Customs and Border Protection meetings, Vanguard ISD graduation ceremonies, Hidalgo County Elections runoff meetings in the conference room, a UTRGV mobile health unit visit, Pharr EMS training and a community health fair hosted by Pharr Police. He described the DRC as a flexible site with large halls and ample parking that many groups are using.
Why it matters: the DRC's frequent rentals show demand for community meeting space and the center's role hosting county and municipal partners. Singletary noted the center provided space for a school's graduation when the school gym was under construction and said the facility supports multi-day and multi-organization events.
Singletary also noted growing demand and asked the board to recognize the workload for staff who manage bookings and events. No fee changes or policy decisions were proposed at the meeting.
