Superintendent outlines Northfield construction plan and sets Aug. 14 open house

The district superintendent updated the board on construction and logistics for the coming school year, saying the site work at Northfield Elementary has progressed to elevator installation and partial reopening of a back drive near the tennis courts.
The superintendent said the area around the former creek will be fenced for roughly two to three months while crews finish parking and punch-list work, and the district will meet Monday to finalize traffic-flow plans for bus drop-off and arrival. "It's not gonna be a perfect scenario," the superintendent said, but staff are working on short-term measures to manage arrival and dismissal while construction continues.
Flooring and final touches remain in several buildings; the superintendent noted installation of gym wood floors and other interior work. An open house for the community is planned for Aug. 14 (planned 5–7 p.m.) to allow families to tour the new facilities, timed to coincide with a home football game. Online registration opens July 23; the first student day at White's is July 27, first staff day is Aug. 10 and the first student day for traditional schools is Aug. 12.
The update also covered work at Southwood High School (layout and laydown areas) and site preparation for a CTE wing addition, including soil testing to address unsuitable soils. The superintendent characterized the summer as a busy construction period but said progress positions the district to start the school year with the new facilities operational.
