Board approves donation, HR report, a $213,655.44 transfer and modest meal-price hike

The MSD Wabash County Schools board approved a slate of routine and financing measures at its July 14 meeting, including acceptance of a $15,000 donation, personnel actions and several financing resolutions.
The board voted to accept a $15,000 gift from Fort Peterbox "for all schools," following a motion and second; the Chair called for the ayes and the donation was approved by voice vote. The board also approved the June 9 meeting minutes and accepted payroll and claims as presented.
The board approved the personnel report that listed multiple resignations and hires. The Chair read items including the resignation of Chris Oswald as athletic director (effective 06/19) and a series of new hires and effective dates; the HR report was approved after a motion and second.
On financing, staff presented a resolution under SCA 1 that would allow a one-time transfer of up to $213,655.44 from the debt service fund to the operations fund for tax-year 2026, tied to the supplemental homestead credit changes. A staff member said the amount is the maximum allowed by the calculations provided; the board moved, seconded and approved the resolution by voice vote.
The board also approved a small increase to school meal prices for the 2026–27 school year. Staff proposed adding $0.10 per meal across categories: kindergarten–sixth grades would move from $2.70 to $2.80; grades seven–12 and the salad bar would move from $2.85 to $2.95. Second-tray prices were increased by $0.10 as well. Staff explained the district has raised meal prices previously (a 25¢ increase last year) and cited rising food costs and a tool used to recommend price levels; the board approved the change by voice vote.
Finally, the board approved a series of bond- and lease-related resolutions required to proceed with federal bond financing: a resolution determining the need for Project Exhibit A, a resolution approving the form of lease amendment (Exhibit B), and reapproval of the building corporation to issue tax-exempt funds. Each motion received a second and passed by voice vote.
