Flowood board approves multiple tax-exemptions, project claims and resolutions

The Mayor and Board of Aldermen of Flowood unanimously approved consent agendas at regular meetings on June 4 and June 18 that cleared a package of tax-exemption orders, project claims and routine resolutions.

On June 4, the board approved by motion several claims dockets and authorized the mayor to sign an amended and restated wastewater service agreement with the West Rankin Utility Agreement. The consent agenda also included a proclamation designating June 14, 2018 as United States Army Day. Alderman Don Flynt moved to approve the consent agenda; Alderman Kathy Smith seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.

During the June 4 meeting the board approved an application by Custom Metal Solutions for an ad valorem tax exemption under Mississippi Code section 27-31-51 et seq., which governs property consigned to a free port warehouse. The motion to approve the exemption was recorded as moved by Alderman Kirk McDaniel and seconded by Alderman Gary Rhoads; the board recorded unanimous approval of members present.

At the June 18 meeting the board approved final-order resolutions granting exemptions from ad valorem taxes for two manufacturing-related PPINs. The record lists a Final Order Resolution for Nucor Steel Jackson, Inc. (PPIN 12093) in the amount of $3,906,802.00 covering Jan. 1, 2019 through Dec. 31, 2023, and a Final Order Resolution for General Recycling of Mississippi, LLC (PPIN 12092) in the amount of $556,880.00 for the same period. Those resolutions were approved as part of the consent agenda on a motion by Alderman Dusty Rhoads, seconded by Alderman Kathy Smith, and recorded as unanimous.

Also on June 18 the board approved routine administrative items including payment of $348.00 to ASCAP for a one-year performance license and authorized the Flowood Fire Department to apply for 2018–2019 Mississippi Department of Homeland Security Equipment Grant funds (recorded in the minutes as 100 percent funded by the Department of Homeland Security). The consent agenda further included a resolution requesting permission from the Mississippi Department of Revenue to amend designated hours for sale of alcoholic beverages in resort-area on-premises permittees and a resolution authorizing abandonment of Glensview Drive between Mississippi Highway 25 right-of-way and Vine Street right-of-way on sixteenth-section land belonging to the Rankin County School District.

All recorded motions on these consent items were noted as receiving unanimous approval from the board members present. The meetings’ minutes record motions, seconders and that votes were unanimous but do not list individual roll-call tallies in the text of the minutes.
