Manish, a public works staff member, told the Little Rock Board of Directors on July 14 that a dump truck collided with the Markham Street pedestrian bridge at Denison and Markham — the bridge in front of the blind and deaf school — causing substantial structural damage.
The city closed the street and sidewalks, placed detours and engaged Arkansas Department of Transportation bridge-maintenance staff, who inspected the structure and used drone photography to document damage. Manish said a structural engineer was reviewing the inspection data and that the city expected the engineer's report later that day, with decisions on next steps to follow the next day.
For now, the detour and closures remain in place and the city said it will provide additional information after reviewing the engineer's recommendations.
