City department heads reported preparations for Sauerkraut Days, maintenance work and staffing changes at the July 13 Lisbon City Council meeting.
Public Works Director Travis Bagby told the council that staff mowed Highway 30/Main Street, rented equipment for tree trimming, arranged contractor follow-up around Sauerkraut Days, trimmed alley trees and completed street painting. Bagby said a sewer service failure at E. Main/Los Cunados will be repaired before the event.
Parks and Recreation Director Drayton Kamberling said summer ball concluded, fall registration is open with an Aug. 7 deadline, and crews are prepping fields and supporting Sauerkraut Days logistics.
Police Chief Jason Blinks reported that a K9 golf outing raised funds successfully and that Officers Gerhke and Johnson have retired. Blinks said two officers are currently in the police academy and a third will enter soon.
Ambulance Director Jacob Lindauer said an open-house turnout was affected by weather and reported 32 ambulance runs from July 3 to July 11, noting that the department’s usual monthly average is about 20 runs.
City Administrator Brandon Siggins updated the council on planned street washing for Sauerkraut Days, a recent barn fire, order of new equipment, a workers’ compensation audit, exploratory work on bringing garbage pickup in-house, work toward a DOT grant for N. Washington Street, completion of wiring at the public works shop and ongoing nuisance enforcement (grass height and vehicle licensing reminders to residents).
Council members thanked the Sauerkraut Days committee and city staff for event preparations and public-works efforts. Mayor Doug O’Connor congratulated Councilman John Bardsley on his Citizen of the Year award.
The meeting adjourned at 8:20 p.m.
