Logan County Board of Equalization hears three valuation protests; assessor recommends $3,565 reduction for one parcel

The Logan County Board of Equalization met in a special session at 9 a.m. July 8 in the Commissioners’ Room of the Logan County Courthouse in Stapleton to hear three property valuation protests.

Chairman Lee Wonch called the meeting to order and the board recorded roll call with members Nathan Kramer and Jon Hill present; Jennifer Nicholson served as clerk and county assessor. Notices and the agenda were posted as required and the Open Meetings Act posting was confirmed.

A protest filed by Darrin and Denise Frey on parcel 570006597 was presented; the Freys did not appear. Clerk/Assessor Jennifer Nicholson recommended removing a grain bin and a farm utility storage shed from the parcel’s improvements, lowering the improvements value by $3,565. The transcript records the assessor’s recommendation; the board’s formal disposition of that recommendation is not recorded in the meeting text.

Protests filed for three parcels associated with Jomabili Inc (570006376, 570006341 and 570006236) were presented next. Linda Grabenstein was present and gave testimony asking that the valuations be lowered. Nicholson recommended no change to those valuations in the assessor’s report.

A protest filed by Mary Joedeman on parcel 570006449 was presented; no one attended that hearing and Nicholson recommended no change. No motions, votes, or formal board rulings are recorded in the transcript for any of the hearings.
