District facilities staff presented a comprehensive five‑year facilities plan at the Feb. 5 Cheatham County Board of Education meeting that prioritizes roof repairs, HVAC replacements, athletic facility improvements and district‑wide infrastructure upgrades.
Presenter Cal Blacker said a districtwide facility assessment was completed to identify needs and that the district aims to address approximately 20% of identified needs each year based on funding and priorities. Staff noted recent winter weather prompted additional roof assessments and insurance claims at several elementary schools and that roofing work is scheduled at Sycamore Middle School and Harpeth Middle School, with targeted repairs at other campuses.
The presenters described an HVAC replacement program projected at over $16 million over five years. Cheatham County Central High School’s HVAC work was described as fully completed, and additional large‑scale unit replacements, PTAC installations, RTU work and control‑system upgrades are planned across campuses and staged by fiscal year through FY26. LED lighting upgrades and athletic facility improvements (fields and concession renovations) were also cited as ongoing projects.
Shelley Duke outlined priorities for student and staff wellness that are tied to facility strategy, including hiring a nurse in every building, developing a substitute nurse program, continuing mental health partnerships (seven school‑based therapists), and pursuing an on‑site staff clinic if funding becomes available.
No formal vote was required on the presentation itself; board members asked for continued updates as projects advance. Timelines, specific contractor selections and detailed funding sources for all projects were not specified during the presentation.
