Kettering council approves Iron Horse Trail cost-share, EMS grant and supplemental appropriations

Kettering City Council on July 14 approved a cost-participation agreement with the City of Centerville and the Centerville Washington Park District to resurface the Iron Horse Trail and authorized the city’s share of $56,626.60.
City staff said Centerville obtained a $150,000 grant from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Recreational Trails Program as the lead agency, and Kettering’s prorated grant allocation for its segment is $15,061.16. Staff said Centerville will invoice Kettering and the park district for local shares after construction is complete.
Council also approved acceptance and expenditure of a Priority 1 grant from the Ohio Department of Public Safety, Division of EMS, for $2,944.56 to purchase emergency medical equipment. City Manager Greeson reminded council that an earlier resolution (April 14) authorized the city to apply for that grant and said the department’s records system helped make the city eligible.
Finance staff presented supplemental appropriations totaling $143,913.66 to fund the playground project balance, Kettering’s Iron Horse Trail share and the EMS grant; council approved the appropriations by roll call. Staff said they will credit the city for $15,061.16 in grant funds associated with the Iron Horse Trail project once the lead agency invoices for construction.
All measures were approved by unanimous roll call. Council members did not request further public hearings on these items during the meeting; staff will return with any required follow-up paperwork and final appropriation language.
