Lyons-Decatur board approves multiple district policies, adopts tax-base growth resolution and sets goals for 2025-26

The Lyons-Decatur School District No. 20 Board of Education met Monday, Aug. 11, 2025, and approved multiple district policies, adopted a resolution related to the district27s property tax request authority and set board goals for the 2025-26 year. President Lisa Christiansen opened the meeting at 7:30 p.m. in the district media center.
The board voted, 9-0, to approve the consent agenda. James Vlach moved the motion and Evan Myers seconded. Shortly afterward the board suspended the regular meeting to hold hearings on the Student Fees Policy and the Parental Involvement Policy. Both hearings were opened and closed with unanimous roll-call votes; the transcript records discussion during the hearings but does not list substantive amendments or numeric fees.
Following the hearings, the board approved a package of policies as presented, including policy 5001 (Attendance and Excessive Absenteeism), 5018 (Parental Involvement Policy), 5045 (Student Fee Policy), 5052 (Wellness), 5054 (Bullying) and 5057 (Title I Parental Involvement Policy). The motion to approve the policies was made by Evan Myers and seconded by Leah Miller and carried on a 9-0 roll-call vote.
The board also adopted a resolution to approve the base growth percentage of the district27s property tax request authority. The motion was moved by James Vlach, seconded by Evan Myers, and passed unanimously. The meeting transcript records adoption of the resolution but does not specify the numeric percentage in the minutes.
Other business approved during the meeting included designating the Burt County Independent as the district27s official publication (motion by Corey Petersen; second by Chad Brehmer) and approving the board goals for 2025-26 (motion by Chad Brehmer; second by Corey Petersen). All votes recorded were 9-0 in favor.
In routine reports, the superintendent noted a local NASB meeting scheduled for Sept. 24, said EHA enrollment is open for interested board members, announced the retirement of Mr. Paul Cash at the end of August with an open house set for Aug. 27 at 3:30 p.m., and reported the district will provide a letter of support to NDOT for a Decatur bridge replacement grant. The principal presented the 2025-26 calendar and professional development plan and noted the PAWS program will begin Aug. 18.
The board set an end-of-fiscal-year meeting for Monday, Aug. 25 at 7:30 p.m. and scheduled the next regular meeting for Monday, Sept. 8 at 7:30 p.m. President Lisa Christiansen adjourned the meeting at 8:08 p.m.
