Wauneta-Palisade board approves $408,791.30 in expenditures, recognizes WPEA for 2027–2028 negotiations

Allison Sandman, board president, called the Wauneta-Palisade Public Schools Board of Education to order at 5:03 pm MT on Oct. 13, 2025, at the district central office in Wauneta.
The board unanimously approved minutes from Sept. 9 hearings and its regular meeting and accepted monthly budget reports and district expenditures totaling $408,791.30 — payroll of $313,280.51 and general fund accounts payable of $95,510.79 — on motions recorded during the meeting. Board member John Jutten moved to approve the minutes; Marty Wheeler seconded. Board member Laurie Maris moved to accept the budget reports and expenditures; Hondo Fanning seconded. The votes on both motions were recorded as unanimous.
The board also voted unanimously to recognize the WPEA for 2027–2028 negotiations after Superintendent Geier read a letter from the association. Geier read the WPEA letter during the meeting but no quoted language from that letter appears in the minutes.
In administrative reports, Superintendent Geier thanked Dan Kunneman of DSK Irrigation for donating 30 pieces of 10-foot pivot pipe to the district and recognized a bus driver for handling an on-route altercation with poise. Geier noted outreach from a Hi-Line manager and reviewed upcoming activities: junior high/high school volleyball at Med Valley, a college fair at MCC, junior high volleyball and football midweek, district cross country on Thursday and a varsity football game Friday vs. Wallace. Principal Frecks said parent-teacher conferences were well attended, Fire Safety Day and an elementary pumpkin patch recently occurred, a homecoming pep rally is scheduled for Friday at 2:15 pm MT, the Wauneta Fire Department will visit the campus to review the layout, and a Words reading tutoring program will begin next week.
Sandman also reported on ESU 15 business, including discussion of the sale of the McCook building and ESU TEA recognition for negotiations, and reminded the board that members are registered for the NASB state convention Nov. 19–21. The board set its next regular meeting for Monday, Nov. 10, 2025, at 5:00 pm MT and adjourned at 6:10 pm MT.
