Almost Heaven BBQ Bash previewed; Buckhannon Fire Department reports training progress and 445 incidents YTD

Jody Light, president of the Almost Heaven BBQ Bash, provided a comprehensive update on the 11th annual Almost Heaven BBQ Bash, scheduled for June 18–20 at Jawbone Park. Organizers expect teams representing 12 states, including nationally recognized competitors and KCBS champions. Entertainment highlighted in the update includes Rick K and the All-Nighters and Landau Eugene Murphy Jr., and organizers plan children’s activities such as a Lego Brick Bash, a Flying Pig Hunt and a Kids Cake Decorating Contest. Light noted marketing efforts statewide and invited council members to a VIP Cooks’ Meeting and Dinner on the Friday before the event.
Earlier in the meeting Mayor Robert Neal Skinner III presented a mayoral proclamation recognizing June 7, 2026, as the Feast of Corpus Christi Day and invited Father Edward Tetteh and Holy Rosary parishioners to receive the proclamation.
Chief J. B. Kimble provided the Fire Department report: 445 incidents year-to-date through May (a decrease of about 2% from the prior year), a newly installed HVAC unit at the station, near-completion of first-floor burn rooms with live-burn training expected to begin next week, purchases of a new hose tester and a smoke-removal fan, scheduled swift-water rescue training at Audra State Park, and extrication training using a donated vehicle from Number One Auto. Councilmembers expressed interest in attending future live-burn demonstrations.
