Wauneta-Palisade board approves $420,253.46 in expenditures, accepts personnel changes and surplus bus bids

The Wauneta-Palisade Board of Education approved a series of routine but consequential actions at its March 16, 2026 regular meeting in Wauneta.
President Allison Sandman called the meeting to order at 5:04 p.m. MT and the board immediately moved into action items. On a motion by Laurie Maris, seconded by Marty Wheeler, the board approved and signed the minutes from the Feb. 16, 2026 regular meeting.
The board then accepted the monthly budget reports and approved district expenditures of $420,253.46, consisting of Payroll $314,910.59 and General Fund accounts payable $105,342.87. The motion to "accept the budget reports as presented and approve the district expenditures of Payroll $314,910.59, General Fund Accounts Payable $105,342.87 for a total of $420,253.46" passed on a motion by Hondo Fanning with a second by Aaron McKinney; the recorded vote was unanimous.
Trustees also handled personnel matters. The board accepted the resignations of Angela Christner and Gale Bly, effective at the end of the 2025–26 school year, and thanked them for their years of service; the motion was made by President Allison Sandman and seconded by Laurie Maris. The board approved a teacher contract for Shiloh May for the 2026–27 school year on a motion by Maris, seconded by Sandman; both motions passed unanimously.
The board opened sealed bids for three surplus buses and accepted the highest bids: Amanda Hastings' $4,000 bid for the 2009 Chevy Collins Bus #3; Axtell Community School's $7,000 bid for the 2000 GMC Thomas Bus #9; and Drew TenBensel's $4,000 bid for the 2005 GMC Thomas Bus #4. Bidders were told to remit payment by cashier's check or other guaranteed funds by March 31, 2026 and arrange pickup by April 17, 2026; the principal will contact the winning bidders. The motion to open and accept bids was made by John Jutten and seconded by Marty Wheeler and carried unanimously.
The board adjourned at 6:32 p.m. MT after announcing its next regular meeting for Monday, April 13, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. MT (6:00 p.m. CT).
