Library director reports robust programs, budget on track and building repairs; board approves Dec. minutes

Director Sam Walters reported that the library continues to host regular programs — including Garden Club, Story Time, Lego Club, Coding Club, Rotary Club and meetings of a High School Leadership Academy — and has added an art and card game program on the first Monday of each month in partnership with Amanda Bohrer, TriCounty Tobacco Prevention Specialist. Walters said the Friends of the Library’s annual Christmas Tea and last month’s ornament- and book‑making programs were well attended (the ornament/book-making program drew over 40 participants) and that all 40 Christmas take-home kits assembled by staff were picked up.
Walters also reported the Friends' annual Chocolate, Wine and Cheese fundraiser is scheduled for February and said this summer’s Shakespeare in the Parks performance is tentatively planned. On finance, Walters stated the library’s budget is currently on track for this period of the fiscal year; he said reports from Anaconda-Deer Lodge County Chief Financial Officer John Sholey are available to trustees for review.
In building news, Walters said the Main Street door opener/closer has broken; he contacted Cooney’s Locksmith in Butte, which had maintained the unit in the past, to assess replacement. Trustees discussed various maintenance issues related to the age of the facility but did not set specific repair timelines or cost estimates.
