Centura Public Schools board reviews newly required policies, defers additional reviews to July

Board member Todd Nitsch moved to excuse Teresa Grabowski and Brooke Schmitt from the meeting; Mark Johnson seconded and the motion passed 4-0, with Grabowski and Schmitt recorded as absent. Later, Mark Johnson moved and Todd Nitsch seconded to approve the agenda “as presented.”
Dr. Heneger led the board through an informational review of newly required district policies, including Policy 3061 (ACH Originator Policy), Policy 4065 (Staff Use of AI Tools) and Policy 6046 (Right to Access School Library Materials). The discussion was presented as a review of requirements; no adoption votes or final actions on those policies were taken at the meeting.
The board also reviewed required revisions to several existing policies spanning meeting procedures (Policy 2008), bidding and procurement for construction and related projects (Policies 3003, 3003.1), fiscal management for federal funds (3004.1), communicable disease response (3048), employee relations and workplace safety (4017, 4019), resignation of certificated staff (4056), compulsory attendance and enrollment (5001, 5003, 5004), student discipline (5035) and emergency response for life‑threatening asthma or systemic allergic reactions (5048). These items were discussed as required revisions; the record shows informational review rather than final approval.
As part of the regular policy-review cycle the board reviewed Policy 5066 (Early Graduation). Because of time constraints, the board moved the remaining scheduled cycle-review items — Policies 5067, 6001, 6002, 6003, 6005, 6006 and 6007 — to the July Committee of the Whole meeting for continued review.
The meeting concluded with a motion by Mark Johnson and a second by Chelsea Schweitzer to adjourn; the meeting was adjourned at 6:19 p.m.
What happens next: the board will return to remaining policy reviews at the July Committee of the Whole meeting; no policy adoptions or changes were recorded as final during the June 15 session.
