Garrett Park council authorizes change order for Town Hall construction documents

Garrett Park — The Town Council authorized Change Order No. 1 to the Construction Documents Phase Services contract with Wiedemann Architects LLC at its June 8 meeting, approving the motion moved by Councilmember Phil Schulp and seconded by Councilmember Lisa Max. The motion passed unanimously.
Town staff said Wiedemann encountered roughly a two-month delay and requested funding to finish the construction documents phase. Town staff reported the firm’s requested amount as $38,243.70; the motion approved by the council was recorded at $38,273.40. Greg Wiedemann of Wiedemann Architects said the change order "does not seek to make the firm whole for expenses between May 2026 and the present; rather, it seeks to ensure that funding is in place for the anticipated hours for both Wiedemann staff and the firm's subconsultants to finish the Construction Documents Phase Services, assuming no major change in scope."
Mayor John Stroud said he would serve as the owner’s representative for the project, consulting with the ad hoc design committee (Karl Miller, former Mayor Chris Keller, and Maintenance Supervisor George Miller) when warranted. Council and staff emphasized several outstanding items that must be resolved before the Town can pursue Mandatory Referral, including fence details that require Fire Department approval, resolution of survey discrepancies with the surveying company, and a decision on the desired audio-visual equipment so conduit and wiring can be included in the construction documents.
Wiedemann told the council that if the Town pursues a Request for Qualifications process, the firm anticipates issuing the RFQ in August, bidding in September with an October submission deadline, and a possible contract award in November.
The council’s approval was limited to the construction documents phase funding; no additional scope changes were adopted at the meeting. The council voted unanimously to approve the motion.
