Dodge County commissioners review proposed FY 2026 budgets, highlight jail, roads and EMS spending

The Dodge County Board of Commissioners met in work session Oct. 29, 2025, at the Pearl Bates Courthouse Annex to review proposed FY 2026 ancillary and general fund budgets. Chairman Dan McCranie presided; Manager Conner Bearden and Clerk Kimberly Smith-Parkerson were present.
County staff presented an estimated $16,914,689 in general fund revenues for 2026, led by total taxes of $10,262,811. Intergovernmental receipts were listed at $3,591,080 and charges for services at $2,025,298. The revenue estimate matches the proposed expense total of $16,914,689.
On the ancillary side, the board reviewed multiple dedicated accounts. Notable figures in the ancillary list included 2019 SPLOST at $2,520,600, T-SPLOST at $750,000, a Federal Forfeiture account at $500,000 and an E911 account listed at approximately $775,710.
Among departmental expense allocations shown in the general fund, the largest were Jail/Sheriff at $4,443,161, the Road Department at $3,789,546 and Emergency Medical Services at $1,913,626. Other line items included Sanitation at $991,617 and E911 expenses of $748,330. Staff presented these as proposed budget lines for board review; the meeting record does not show final adoption or formal amendments to the budget.
Commissioner Jeffrey Jones moved to adjourn at 7:57 p.m.; Commissioner Brian Watkins seconded. The motion carried unanimously. Clerk Kimberly Smith-Parkerson attested the minutes.
The board will consider next steps on the FY 2026 budget in future sessions; the Oct. 29 meeting was a review of proposed figures and did not record a formal budget vote.
