Hortonville Area School District board approves vouchers, staff changes and trip requests; recognizes athletes

At its June 23 meeting the Hortonville Area School District Board approved multiple financial vouchers and personnel actions, OK’d several overnight and out-of-state student trips, and recognized student athletic achievements; the board also reviewed a dual-credit report showing roughly $407,000 saved in tuition.
Hortonville Area School District Board President Robert VanDenElzen called the regular open session to order at 7:00 p.m. Monday and the board quickly moved through routine business, approving minutes, vouchers and a consent agenda that included personnel changes and trip requests.
The board approved the Open Session and Special Open Session minutes from June 9, 2025; Brett Eidahl moved to approve the open-session minutes, Jessica Hartjes seconded, and the motion carried on a roll-call vote with board member Andrea Marcks-Ziegler recorded as abstaining. A separate vote to approve the special open-session minutes likewise carried with Marcks-Ziegler abstaining.
On financial business, the board approved Regular Vouchers #58655–58752 (motion by Dana Ramshak, second Brett Eidahl) and ACH/employee reimbursement Vouchers #242500323–242500338 (motion by Brett Eidahl, second Jessica Hartjes); both motions carried on roll call.
The consent agenda, approved by motion of Brett Eidahl and seconded by Dana Ramshak, included second readings and approvals for multiple overnight and out-of-state trip requests: FWA Trees for Tomorrow (Eagle River, Sept. 22–24, 2025), FWA Disney Campus (Florida, Feb. 9–13, 2026), and the HHS Band trip to Nashville (April 10–14, 2026). The minutes note that district transportation will be provided for several trips and that Brian Gooding approved transportation for those items where noted. The consent agenda also recorded staff memos and hires, including Benjamin Porath (GES K–4 physical education teacher) and Leah Cazella (GMS art teacher), a staff reassignment for Abigail Demerath and a special education staffing change for Samantha Forsling. The board recorded resignations for Kathi Danke (GMS school counselor), Alli Winch (HHS school counselor) and Rebecca Kelly (district interpreter), with last day listed as June 6, 2025.
Under recognitions, the board thanked the Lattimer family for donating special education supplies to North Greenville Elementary School and congratulated Hortonville High School athletes for regional and state results as well as All-Conference honors across softball, baseball, track and field, girls soccer and boys golf. The board also reviewed the High School Dual Credit Enrollment and Tuition Report for 2024–25, which shows that the district’s partnership with Fox Valley Technical College (FVTC) resulted in an estimated $406,976.66 in college tuition savings for students and families.
The district administrator’s report noted that it was the last week of summer school, that the state budget was not expected by the July 1 deadline, and that district leadership would participate in a media roundtable in Grand Chute on June 24 to discuss the state budget. The board recorded a first reading for a DECA overnight trip to Madison (July 27–28, 2025); that item was presented for first reading rather than final approval at this meeting.
The board approved announcements and reminders listing upcoming Board of Education and Policy Committee meeting dates through October 2025. With no further business, Jessica Hartjes moved to adjourn, Andrea Marcks-Ziegler seconded, and the meeting adjourned at 7:13 p.m.
The board’s next regular meeting is scheduled for Monday, July 14, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. in the District Board Room.
