The Monrovia Planning Commission selected new leadership and confirmed annual committee appointments at its July 15 meeting.
Following staff’s reorganization recommendation, a commissioner moved to elect Commissioner Cheryl Rose as chair and Commissioner Janicek as vice chair for the 2026–27 fiscal year. The motion was seconded and approved by roll call.
The commission also adopted the minutes of its June 10 meeting by voice vote.
Director Sherry Bamillo reviewed annual commissioner assignments to external review bodies. The commission moved and approved by roll call that Commissioners Austin, Vashani and Scheffler continue to serve on the Board of Appeals. Commissioners discussed continuity on the Art in Public Places Committee and moved to retain Commissioner Brown in that role; the motion carried by roll call vote.
The reorganizational changes take effect immediately: Chair Cheryl Rose presided over the remainder of the meeting after the vote. The commission also discussed options for rotating committee service in future years to balance continuity and shared experience.
