Beaufort County Council voted to place land associated with "Project Micro" into an existing multi‑county industrial park (MCIP) and to advance a Special Source Revenue Credit (SSRC) agreement intended to support the project.
John O'Toole, speaking to council, described the project as a manufacturing/defense supplier investment: "They are looking to invest $7,000,000 in our community, create 42 jobs," and he said the company planned to expand in an existing 15,000‑square‑foot facility with expectations to double its size. Staff explained that placing the property in an MCIP is required to enable SSRCs under state law and described the expected economic multipliers: projected local sales of about $25 million in the first three years and additional wage impact.
Council members praised staff coordination and said the project would diversify the local economy beyond tourism and property taxes. The council unanimously approved the first readings to place the land in the MCIP and to enter the SSRC agreement, and asked staff to continue work to finalize the details.
What happens next: County staff will finalize the SSRC agreement for subsequent readings and execution; the council will return for any required future votes to authorize incentive terms.
Reporting from the meeting: First reading for MCIP placement and SSRC ordinance passage moved by council and seconded; unanimous initial support was recorded.
