Houston Parks Board approves May minutes, hears positive finance report and park updates

The Houston Parks and Recreation Board met July 16, 2025, in the Toni M. McClinney Community Room. Sheena Posttewait, a board member, called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. and the board approved the May meeting minutes after a motion by PJ Murray and a second from Preston Wade.

Robbie Mortensen, listed in the minutes as in attendance, presented the board’s financial reports for the pool and the golf course and said both areas are “looking positive” and moving in a good direction. The board received several operational updates: sprinkler heads for the golf-course irrigation have been ordered and are expected to arrive soon, and concrete work at Bridges Park is scheduled to begin next week with gravel already in place.

New-business items focused on recreation sign-ups and programming. Staff announced youth soccer and flag-football registrations opened July 16, 2025; Mortensen reported “several” soccer registrations and said flag football had only one child enrolled at the time of the meeting but that more sign-ups were expected. Board members also discussed launching a fall adult softball league, including questions about rules such as home-run limits and fields of play; Mortensen said he would post on the department’s Facebook page to recruit team captains and gather input on league rules.

Preston Wade moved to adjourn the meeting; the minutes record the motion as seconded by Wade as well. The meeting was adjourned at 6:34 p.m. The minutes were submitted by board member Sheena Posttewait.
