“No, and the reason I am not comfortable supporting this at this time is that the budget has already been approved,” Sperry said. “Moving forward with this request would reduce our Capital Fund balance to approximately $480,000 and our Surplus account balance to approximately $630,000.” She added that she believes the township’s surplus should be closer to $1,000,000 to provide a financial cushion in the event of a major disaster, such as widespread flooding from a Category 2 hurricane.
The committee opened and closed a public hearing on the ordinance before the vote. The motion to adopt was recorded as: motion by Smith, second by Hannagan; roll call — Smith: aye; Sperry: nay; Hannagan: aye. The clerk recorded the vote tally as two ayes and one nay, and the ordinance was adopted at the meeting.
The committee did not provide an immediate schedule for the firehouse parking-lot work during the meeting. The ordinance records the appropriation and bond authorization; implementation steps, financing schedule, and procurement timelines were not specified during the discussion.
