Thunderbolt reports about $9.4 million in reserves; moves payments to Springbrook accounting system

At the April 8 meeting the Town of Thunderbolt received a financial update from Shannon Brett and administrative updates from town staff.
Brett reported the town has about $9.4 million in Georgia Fund One and said Bank South is paying 3.79% on the majority of those deposits. She said the town earned a Certificate of Excellence for financial reporting, that the 2025 audit is nearing completion, and that auditors will be on site the week of April 27, 2026. Brett also reported that Springbrook now processes 100% of the town’s disbursements, capital assets are set up in the system, and templates for receivables and prepaids are configured.
Town Clerk Jan LeViner said she will present on the Laserfiche repository at the May meeting and noted the town is included in Georgia Current Magazine's event listings. Town Administrator Matthew Walker said the Coastal Regional Commission completed its third stakeholder meeting as part of research into AI tools for local governments, reminded the public of the Blessing of the Fleet April 25, 2026, and introduced Destinee Davey as the new Supervisor of Police Administrative Services.
Anna Marie Thomas told the council the Thunderbolt Museum is selling license plates for $25 with proceeds to the museum, has a community yard sale planned for May 16, 2026 with seven registered vendors, and is working on landscaping in front of the museum; a sign-up sheet was circulated.
