Fire department readies life-jacket stand, Fast Board training; public works preps for July 4

The Village of White Lake heard reports on public safety and event preparations at its June 9 meeting.
Fire department leadership reported the department purchased a Fast Board and conducted training on its use, and that a life-jacket stand has been installed at the beach and is receiving positive feedback. Chief Tegen said the department will staff beverage bars at the July 4 celebration after the American Legion stepped back from that duty. The department also conducted house-burn training May 30 on Highway DD.
Public Works Director James Turner reported the village’s CMAR is complete and said a draft Land Treatment Management Plan is expected by July 1. Turner said public works picked up plywood for the fireworks barge; reported that employee Brett Carlin passed his water test; noted Scott Popelka assisted with placing buoys using his pontoon; and said crews will mow ditches before July 4.
Trustee Patsy Listle added that new signs and frames at the boat launch have been completed at a cost of $1,982, paid from boat-launch pass donations. Clerk-Treasurer Carol Blawat reported the White Lake Little League adult softball tournament (July 31–Aug. 1) and said organizers want to use some proceeds to fix the concession stand, replace cement steps and add dugout benches. The clerk also said a recent generator inspection with a grant inspector went well and the grant can be closed out.
Board members did not report any new emergency concerns; officials said they are moving forward with preparations for events and will report back on outstanding logistical items.
