The Town of McBee council voted May 4 to accept a formal request to annex 1.5 acres (Chesterfield County tax parcel 121-000-000-025) for WTC of McBee, LLC, the applicant for a proposed Dollar Tree store.
Tisha Jones, the town clerk, read the annexation request. Mayor John Campolong moved to accept the petition; Council Member Beulah Bolton seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Campolong said the vote will serve as one ordinance reading and that the council will return for a second reading and to assign a final tax map number before the applicant can start construction.
The mayor said the developer expects to begin building “in about 3–4 months” once the final approvals are complete. The council did not set a final date for the second reading at the May 4 meeting.
Why it matters: annexation would bring the commercial parcel into town limits, which would subject the property to McBee zoning and potentially increase the town’s tax base and sales-tax receipts. The council did not discuss any incentives or tax agreements in this session.
Next steps: the council will schedule a second ordinance reading and assign a tax-map number; only after those administrative steps and any required local approvals can construction start.
