McBee council reviews recreation plans and accepts Duke Energy grant for emergency generator

The McBee Town Council heard updates on recreation events and local projects and reviewed a small grant award for emergency equipment.
Justin Anderson of the McBee Recreation Department described a Dixie Youth tournament scheduled to begin June 16; admission will be $8 (the first $1 on opening day will go to the Dixie Youth Scholarship) and children under 5 will enter free. Anderson said shuttles would run and parking would be free.
Council Member A.C. McLeod Jr. reported the tennis-court concrete work will be paid with a $28,000 check planned for mid-June; he said the town expects a reimbursement of $12,500 and estimated paint costs near $7,000. The council discussed scheduling and payment timing.
Mayor John Campolong said the town received a $20,000 grant from Duke Energy to buy a generator to support an emergency command capability at Town Hall. Bids were being solicited to install the generator and the county is assisting on weather-notification equipment; the mayor said this was intended to supply a minimal emergency shelter capability until a community center is built.
Next steps: Staff will solicit final bids for generator installation and proceed with planned payments for the tennis-court contractor; grant and reimbursement details to be finalized in follow-up meetings.
