McBee council handles routine business: minutes, finance review, lights, equipment and reports

At the March 21 meeting the Town of McBee council amended the agenda to include approval of the March 7, 2023 minutes and then approved those minutes; Mayor Glenn Odom voted Aye and Councilman Charlie Sutton voted Nay. Councilman Charlie Sutton later moved to rescind his earlier March 7 vote to purchase a tractor from the McBee Municipal Cemetery account; the motion received no second and did not carry.
Council directed staff to research certificate of deposit (CD) rates at local banks and discuss depositing funds into higher-yield accounts; the motion was moved by Councilman James Linton, seconded by Councilman Robbie Liles, and passed unanimously. The council also approved replacing defective Christmas lights using the hospitality fund (motion by Councilman Robbie Liles, second by James Linton).
In council reports, Councilman Robbie Liles said opening day and a Butt Bog fundraiser raised over $10,000; Cody Mitchell was invited to throw the opening pitch and Coach Chris Lloyd announced opening ceremony events. Councilman James Linton reported the town purchased a new tractor and maintenance truck, noted "William" and "Marcus" each have a truck for duties, and said new maintenance uniforms are expected by mid-April. Councilman Charlie Sutton asked about special election candidacy forms; the clerk said the MEC was reviewing forms and did not have names available; Sutton was referred to MEC Chair Katharine Morrison.
